Webb's City Inc. St. Petersburg, Florida Most Unusual Drug Store Vintage Plate !

Part of my Collection of Florida Souvenirs!  I have had this one for years and loved it!  I remember this store well, and going there as a child to see the Mermaids!  Just over the Skyway from where I lived and grew up, was this great tourist attraction!  Webb's City Inc. The World's Most Unusual Drug Store, St. Petersburg, Florida.  Plate was made by Vernon Kilns U.S.A. Plate is definitely a step back into time.  Interesting is the writing on the backside of plate, that tells of the nervous, dynamic, energetic man that moved to St. Petersburg from Knoxville Tenn. and opened a hole-in-the-wall drug store between the tracks of two railroads, and across the street from the city's
colored section

It goes on to tell that the first year, with only four employees, the store grossed 38,000.  I will let you read on.....it is all in one of the photos!    This plate measures just a bit under 10.5" in diameter.  Plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.  Plate highlights in center the Founder, J.E. "Doc" Webb and he is surrounded by pictures of the Main Building.....the Trading Post, the Roof Garden, along with a few pictures of the inside of store, along with the old cars in the parking lot.  This store often advertised Live Mermaids, I remember being able to actually talk to them as they were in the tank!  Fun Touristy Reminder of our Fun and Fabulous State of Florida!  I have to believe this plate to be somewhat rare, as I have owned it for several years, and have not run into another like it!  Don't miss out on adding this to your collection!
