    Vintage VERNON KILNS
Vernon Kilns 1860s Series Cup & Saucer with Keel Boat River  Scene
This nice vintage (1940s-1950s) Vernon  Kilns "1860s Series" cup and saucer set features a
wonderful keel boat river scene designed by Ed Botsford, renowned Vernon Kilns artist.
Men in top hats and  women in hoop skirts carrying parasols are shown on top of a keel boat that is  being pulled down a river. An oarsman at the back of the boat is steering.
The scene in the  center of the saucer and on two sides of the cup is brown with touches of red,  blue, yellow, and green hand-tinted onto the design.
A beautiful brown  floral design trims the edge of the saucer and the rest of the cup. The edges of  the saucer and cup are scalloped.
The saucer is  approximately 6 inches in diameter. The cup is about 3¾ inches in diameter by 2½ inches high and about 5 inches from one side of the cup to the outer edge of  the handle.
The back of the  saucer has a charming logo showing a woman in a hoop skirt holding a parasol.  The under-glaze inscriptions on both the cup and the saucer read "
HAND PAINTED, VERNON’S 1860, UNDER GLAZE, By VERNON KILNS, CALIFORNIA USA."
    Very Good vintage condition.
