I just purchased this PAIR of antique European Rococo style lion candle sticks from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The pieces are characteristic of the figural designs produced by a number of French glassworks during the second half of the 19th century (Portieux-Vallerystahl). The moulded candles have a striking Rococo inspired design with heavily embossed lions draped on the tripod legs surrounded by a scaled foliate décor. The pair measure 9" high and 5" in diameter. Both are in very good condition with no damage. There is small production flaw on one of the top petals (doesn't appear to have quite filled the mold and was fired over / you have to look). There is some production mold roughness on the underside interior edges. This handsome pair of Lion candlesticks would make a fine addition to your collection of 19th century European / French moulded art glass.
