    Description

Up for auction is an Official Boy Scout BELT BUCKLE circa 1913-1920. The First Class badge shows wear but all parts are still visible including the Scout Motto “Be Prepared” on the scroll. However, the knot attached to the scroll is very unusual. The knot appears to be some initials or a code. For example held sideways the letter may say “DTD” (Do (a good) Turn Daily). (We welcome input on this unusual buckle).
The back side reveals more about the early days of the Scouting movement. Headquartered in New York City, a Supply Division was organized to provide official uniforms as well as the merit and rank badges. The belt buckle was made by a company that would be a very important supplier to the new fledgling organization, the SIGMUND EISNER company in Reb Bank, NJ just south of the New York area in coastal New Jersey. Eisner became the National Outfitters of the Boy Scouts of America. Two patent dates appear on the back side of the buckle:
    Aug 12, 1912
    Feb 23, 1913
